‘Influencer marketing’ has become a hot topic. More and more companies are enlisting the help of so-called influencers to promote their brand or product via social media. At the same time, the lives of more and more young people revolve around likes and followers, and many of them aspire to rise to the ranks of professional influencers.

The Universiteit van Vlaanderen invited Sarah Steenhaut to answer the question “How do I become a successful influencer?” The University of Flanders is an initiative aimed at promoting lifelong learning by making scientific expertise accessible to the general public. It’s supported by the Flemish public broadcaster VRT, the five Flemish universities, Knack and the Jonge Academie. In her talk Steenhaut explains how influencer marketing works and shares a number of concrete tips on how to become a micro-influencer.
